Named faculty chairs

Appointment to an endowed chair is a singular recognition for a faculty member, and often an added incentive in recruiting a new or retaining an existing teacher. A named chair also is distinguished by the roster of previous chair-holders and takes on added stature over time. An endowed chair may be designated for a particular academic department or discipline or for an academic division (e.g., Upper School). Currently, in a faculty of 181 full-time teachers, only 12 endowed chairs exist for such recognition. To fully endow a named chair currently requires a gift of $1.5 million.
